Plaid and suede are the season’s headline acts, but the pencil, A-line and party varieties aren’t about to be upstaged. Our tack: find the skirt that works, then pull on a neat little knit you already own, or tuck in a crisp shirt and you are ready to go. The choice between boots, heels or sparkly flats is up to you.

Plaid Skirts: You might Scottish heritage but plaid this time is fresher, with plays on scale and new colour combinations. Go bold if you want to make a statement, or keep tonal for a nod to the Highlands
A-Line Skirts: Inspired by that iconic Mad Men silhouette, brought into the modern day through a slightly longer length and fuller sense of volume.
The Column: The skirt shape of the season. Yes it means a commitment to neatly crossed legs, but think about the column's in-built power and appeal.
Suede Skirts: Soft and reassuring wholesome, suede is one for style investors. These skirts will deliver years of wear and then think about the in-built warmth.
Party Skirts: The dress has owned party wear for far too long now. The key here is a luxe fabric with a hint of shimmer and shine. Extra jewels at your discretion.
